COMCAST FRUSTRATION
June 30, 2008
Well, it’s been 39 1/2 hours without home internet and phone service. Yep I’m doing this post while at work.. I have the next podcast in the can ready to go but not having service at home I have not been able to get the podcast up to LibSyn who hosts my feed. I just don’t feel right about using the companies bandwidth to do the upload. I just got of the phone with Comcast for the 4th time and have been assured that I’m on the schedule for today… Well we’ll see what happens, that can be anytime up to 8pm tonight. Wish me luck… Being without internet service for most of the weekend just plain SUCKS!
My Video Experience
June 24, 2008
WOW! I’ve been playing around with posting videos. Of course I first tried the “OLD” stand by YouTube; it works but I just wasn’t getting the results I wanted. They say to upload the best quality you have and they, YouTube, will take care of the rest. Depending on the users bandwidth, connection speed to the internet, they would be able to view the videos in a higher “Quality”. I guest that means crappy vs less crappy. OK, all right I’m spoiled… I was an early adopter of Plasma Technology and HD. So I’m not going to watch some crappy looking video on my Mac nor on my Plasma no matter what the subject. Maybe I’m just to impatient to take the time to figure out all the nuances, quite frankly I just don’t want to take the time, I have too much other stuff to do. Can’t it be as simple as editing your content in iMovie, I use an HD Cam, then export it out using QuickTime and then bada bing, bada boom, you’re good to go too upload the video. YES it can be that simple. I just tried out Vimeo.com and it works great! Take a look at my about page to see the difference. Just above the first video is a paragraph explaining what the difference is between the three source videos I uploaded to YouTube. The 4th and last video is the Vimeo video… You don’ have to watch them all the way through just enough to see the quality difference.
Relax & Enjoy

In this episode of MNOF (Mac N Old Farts) Podcast I cover the Dashboard Widgets. I lead off first with a short followup regarding the Dictionary App on how you can use the Spotlight feature to look up words. I let you in on my two favorite Widgets, IstatPro and Easy Envelopes. Widgets are useful and good fun just don’t over doit. The Music track this week is French Love, I warn you that I have very eclectic tastes when it come to music but have a listen and remember to Relax & Enjoy.

In this episode I respond to Patricia’s comments on the last episode MNOF_003 by revisiting the Spelling Grammar checker. As a new topic I introduce you to Apples Dictionary App. The closing song I chose “Salsa Caribe!” just make me want to jump on a plane and head on down to the Caribbean. If you pay real close attention to the song there seems to be shades reminiscent of those great early 60′s family films such as “Mr. Hobbs takes a Vacation” staring Jimmy Stewart, One of my personal favorites. And as always Relax & Enjoy.
